[. . . ] Instructions for Battery Replacement - Apple iPodTM 3rd Generation
These instructions come with no warranty or guarantee. [. . . ] The case will still be attached by a ribbon cable--do not detach the ribbon cable. Step 3 Once the case is open, remove the hard drive by carefully lifting the blue rubber padding with the hard drive away from the iPodTM. The hard drive will be connected at the base by a small ribbon cable tab. Gently lift this tab, disconnect the hard drive and set it aside for re-assembly. Step 4 Use the included tool to remove the battery from its compartment. You will notice the power cable is wrapped under the green motherboard. Carefully pull the power cord out from under the motherboard and unplug the power connector to remove the battery. Step 5 Plug in the new battery, making sure to wrap the power cord back under the motherboard before securing the battery to its compartment.
