RETAIN INSTRUCTIONS The safety and operating instructions should be retained for future reference. HEED WARNINGS All warnings on the unit and in the operating instructions should be adhered to. FOLLOW INSTRUCTIONS All operating and use instructions should be followed. [. . . ] To reduce the noise bars, press the CH/TRK or key. DIGITAL TRACKING CONTROLS When a tape is played, the Digital Auto Tracking System automatically adjusts the tracking to obtain the best possible picture. · Press the CH/TRK or key to obtain the best possible picture. 19 SPECIAL OPERATIONS (CONTINUED) CLEAR Press the CLEAR key to reset the time counter to 0:00:00 anywhere on a tape so that you can easily locate a tape segment. The CLEAR key can only be used when counter display is showing on the TV screen. DISPLAY (O. S. D) Press the DISPLAY key to display the tape counter, clock and status mode on the TV screen. And, by pressing the DISPLAY key before disappearing the OSD from the screen, only the tape counter will remain on the screen. CHILD LOCK To disable to usage of the VCR, or to protect your timer recordings, you can lock the VCR so that the keys on the VCR or remote won't work. ·To lock: Press and hold POWER on the remote for approximately six seconds. ·To release: Press and hold POWER on the remote for approximately six seconds. CM. · Press CM. SKIP key once during playback to advance the tape approximately 30 seconds. · Each press of the CM . SKIP key adds an additional 30 seconds up to 5 minutes. 20 MENU OPERATION Turn on the TV and VCR. Set the VCR to VCR mode by pressing the TV/VCR key on the remote control until the VCR indicator lights up the display panel. Set the TV to CH3 or 4. MENU 3 OR 4 TV/VCR (MENU SCREEN) Press the MENU key then the MENU screen will appear. Pressing this key once more makes the MENU screen disappear. NOTE:A strong cable on antenna signal in your area may cause Auto Detect to miss detect. If this should happen, select 1 or 2 for the system you have. AUTO CHANNEL SEARCH What type of signal are you using?1 Cable TV 2 Antenna 3 > Detect Automatically MENU Exit 2 Press the number key 3 to detect the channel automatically and the scanning channel number appears on the TV screen. AUTO CHANNEL SEARCH Now scanning channel 14 ANY KEY Cancel 3 Wait until the channel numbers stop changing. After finishing the channel search process, the first channel appears automatically. (The memorized channels are selected in order. ) 4 TO SET THE CABLE BOX 1 Press the number key 3 in the MENU mode to select the CHANNEL SET mode. Press the number key 4 to process the Cable Box setup. CABLE BOX SETUP On what channel do you want to receive from the cable box?0 ­ 9 01 ­13 INPUT Video MENU Cancel 2 Press the number key or input key which matches to the output of the Cable Box to connect between Cable Box and VCR. When you make a timer recording, the preset channel number will be displayed automatically. CABLE BOX SETUP On what channel do you want to receive from the cable box?05 CLEAR Correct MENU Continue 24 SETTING TV CHANNELS (CONTINUED) TO DELETE A CHANNEL To memorize additional channels not set by the AUTO CHANNEL SEARCH function and to remove unnecessary channels. 1 Press the number key 3 in the MENU mode to select the CHANNEL SET mode and press the number key 2 to select the Add/Remove Channels. [. . . ] This can easily be determined if, during playback of a known good tape, there is good sound, but no picture (picture is extremely snowy). If this is the case, have the video cassette recorder checked by qualified service personnel. Good Picture Snowy Picture VIDEO HEAD CLEANING If the heads require cleaning, use an Emerson or equivalent high quality chemical non-abrasive (wet) head cleaning tape or have them cleaned professionally. If playing a head cleaning tape in the VCR once does not improve the picture, play it several times before requesting service. · DO NOT ATTEMPT TO CLEAN THE VIDEO HEADS OR SERVICE THE UNIT BY REMOVING THE TOP COVER. · Video heads may eventually wear out and should be replaced when they fail to produce clear pictures.
