[. . . ] This is the time it takes the volume detector to react to the Release part of the sound signal. A long release time lifts the signal level as a sound decays, flattening the dynamics. "TRHD" sets the threshold level where the signal starts getting compressed (from -48 to 0dB). "RTIO" controls the ratio by which the signal is compressed, when the threshold level is reached. It makes the transition between compressed and uncompressed signal smoother, by softening the knee. This parameter highpass filters the sidechain signal of the Compressor, so that it does not react to bass. "MIX" controls the cross mix between the compressed signal and the original signal. A high value bypasses the Dynamix processor. Machinedrum SPS-1 USER'S MANUAL 27 THE SOUND SYNTHESIS OF MACHINEDRUM LOW FREQUENCY OSCILLATORS (LFO) Each kit in the Machinedrum has 16 assignable low frequency oscillators (LFO), which can be used to modulate track parameters. A typical application of an LFO is letting it sweep a filter cut-off frequency. A mix control allows the output to be set to any mix between the two waveforms. The LFO's are by default mapped to control their own tracks, but they can be set to modulate any track, including other LFO's for extra complex modulation waveforms. However, if "UPDTE" is set to "TRIG" or "HOLD", the retrigging is only made by drums from its associated track. LFO EDIT To edit an LFO, follow the steps described below. 1. Press [FUNCTION] and hold it, then press [SYNTHESIS/EFFECTS/ ROUTING] to open the LFO edit window. 2. The first parameter "TRACK" is the target track for this LFO. Select the parameter you wish the LFO to modulate, using the "PARAM" control. All Machine, Track Effects and Routing parameters are accessible by the LFO. You can modulate another LFO by targeting the track it is assigned to, and select either the speed, depth or mix in the "PARAM" control. 4. "SHP 1" and "SHP 2" select the waveform shapes for the LFO's. By using the "SHMIX" mixer, you can choose how much of each you want to use. "SHMIX" is a balance control, so at its minimum there is only modulation by the "SHP 1" waveform. At its maximum, there is only modulation by the "SHP 2" waveform. "SHP 2" waveforms are inverted versions of the ones available in "SHP 1". 5. [. . . ] A low value lets lower signals through the gate. FHLD - The input filter cutoff hold time. FFRQ - The input filter base cutoff frequency. Appendix A: MACHINE REFERENCE A-11 MIDI MACHINES "MID" The MIDI machines are used for controling external MIDI gear, such as synthesizers, connected to the MIDI OUT port of the Machinedrum SPS-1. There are 16 MIDI machines in total, each connected to the corresponding MIDI channel. As there is no internal audio processing fo these machines, their controls extend over the Synthesis, Effect and Routing menus. SYNTHESIS MENU NOTE - Selects the MIDI note to be triggered, ranging from C-2 to G8. [. . . ]
