[. . . ] Owner's manual E DUCATIMONSTERS4R 1 E 2 Hearty welcome among Ducati fans!We think you will ride your Ducati motorcycle for long journeys as well as short daily trips. We are steadily doing our best to improve our "Technical Assistance" service. For this reason, we recommend you to strictly follow the indications given in this manual, especially for motorcycle running-in. [. . . ] To reach this compartment, remove the seat first (page 27) then the protective cover (1, fig. 41): 2) box wrench for spark plugs; 3) tommy bar; 4) double-bit screwdriver; 5) helmet fastening cable. 1 E fig. 42) To be able to carry out some service or repair operations, it is necessary to remove some parts of the fairing. Warning Failure to refit or incorrectly refitting one of the parts removed might cause it to suddenly come off while the vehicle is running, thus making the rider lose control of the vehicle. E 2 Removing the headlight fairing Loosen and remove the two fastening screws (1) on the headlight support. Note Make sure to collect all check nuts of the screws (1), that are inside the headlight fairing. 42 44 Lifting the fuel tank Warning Make sure the fuel in the tank is less than 5 litres or fuel may leak out through the filler plug breather. Warning When lowering the tank, make sure lines are properly routed to avoid squeezing. 1 E fig. 45) Replace the air filter at the required intervals shown in the routine maintenance chart (see Warranty Card) . The air box is accessible after lifting the fuel tank as described on page 45. To remove the filter, release the cover clips (1) on both sides of the air box and take off the cover (2). 46) and fit a new one. 2 E Important A clogged filter will reduce air intake, increase fuel consumption, reduce engine power, and foul the spark plugs. Do not use the motorcycle without filter or suspended matters could get into the engine and cause damage. Install the filter into the seat in the air box as shown in the figure and refit all the parts you have removed. Important If you are using the motorcycle on dusty or very wet roads, replace filter more frequently than recommended intervals shown in the routine maintenance chart (see Warranty Card). 1 fig. 47) Check the coolant level in the expansion reservoir on the RH side of the motorcycle. Unscrew the filler (1) and add a mixture consisting of water and antifreeze SHELL Advance Coolant or Glycoshell (35-40% of the volume) up to MAX mark. This mixture improves operating conditions (coolant will start freezing at 20° C (-4 °F). Warning Place the motorcycle on a flat surface and make sure the engine is cold before proceeding. 1 MAX MIN E fig. 48) Fluid level should never fall below the MIN mark on each reservoir. If level drops below the limit, air might get into the circuit and affect the operation of the system involved. Brake and clutch fluid must be topped up and changed at the intervals specified in the routine maintenance chart refer to the Warranty Card - by a Ducati dealer or authorized workshop. Clutch system If the control lever has exceeding play and the transmission snatches or jams as you try to engage a gear, it means that there is air in the circuit. Contact your Ducati dealer or an authorized workshop to have the system inspected and air drained out. [. . . ] In the state of California only, Emission Control System emergency repairs, as provided for in the California Administrative Code, may be performed by other than an authorized Ducati dealer. An emergency situation occurs when an authorized Ducati dealer is not reasonably available, a part is not available within 30 days, or a repair is not complete within 30 days. Ducati will reimburse the owner for the expenses, including diagnosis, not to exceed Ducati's suggested retail price for all warranted parts replaced and labor charges based on Ducati's recommended time allowance for the warranty repair and the geographically appropriate hourly labor rate. The owner may be required to keep receipts and failed parts in order to receive compensation. [. . . ]
