To get the very best out of your new coffee machine it is advisable to read these instructions before using the appliance. This is the only way to ensure optimum results and maximum safety. Using for the first time Before using the machine for the first time, wash all the accessories in warm soapy water and rinse. For the best tasting coffee the internal circuits must be flushed through at least five times. To do this follow the instructions in the paragraph "Preparing the filter coffee" using just water. [. . . ] Fill a container, ideally a small metal jug, with around 100 grams of milk for each cappuccino being prepared. Note: It is recommended to use semi-skimmed milk at fridge temperature. When choosing the size of the container, remember that the volume will increase by 2 or 3 times. Hold the jug of milk so that the tip of the steam nozzle is 5 mm immersed (fig. 20) (turning more or less the steam knob, the quantity of steam will change). When the volume of milk has doubled, immerse the steam nozzle deeper into the milk to continue to froth and heat the milk (fig. Froth the milk until the steam in the boiler has been completely used up: this will prevent the milk becoming trapped inside the steam tube. Press the ON/OFF switch for espresso/cappuccino to turn off the appliance. Then, as a final touch, sprinkle a bit of cocoa powder over the frothy milk to make a perfect cappuccino. 11. In order to make 4 cappuccinos, it is necessary to repeat the previous operation, paying attention to the quantity of ground coffee and water, indicated in the chart page 10. Before turning the Vario System selector to "cappuccino", brew the coffee into the small espresso carafe until it reaches level 4 on the COFFEE LEVEL side (fig. IMPORTANT: The steam nozzle must be thoroughly cleaned after each use. Proceed as follows: · Unscrew the steam nozzle from the tube by turning in a clockwise direction (fig. 26 Coffee Maker 5732136000 BCO120 UK 4-04-2005 9:38 Pagina 8 · Make sure that the three holes in the steam nozzle, illustrated in fig. · Screw the steam nozzle back into place. CLEANING AND MAINTENANCE fig. 27 · Before performing any cleaning operations, the machine must have cooled down and must be disconnected from the mains power supply. · Never immerse the machine in the water: it is an electrical appliance. · Do not use solvents or abrasive detergents to clean the coffee maker. · Regularly clean the filter holder, the removable drip tray, the boiler outlet, and the carafes. · From time to time check that the holes in the filter for espresso coffee are not obstructed. If necessary, carefully clean the filter with hot water, scrubbing with an abrasive pad. · To clean the Flavor Savor, remove it from the filter holder moving it up (fig. [. . . ] The wire which is coloured blue must be connected to the terminal which is marked with the letter N or coloured black. The wire which is coloured brown must be connected to the terminal which is marked with the letter L or coloured red. When wiring the plug, ensure that all strands of wire are securely retained in each terminal. If your electricity supply point has only two pin socket outlets, or if you are in doubt, consult a qualified electrician. [. . . ]
