If you are unsure whether the computer is off or in Hibernation, turn the computer on, and then shut it down through the operating system. Remove the memory module compartment cover (see Memory module on page 47). Remove the WLAN module: CAUTION: To prevent an unresponsive system, replace the wireless module only with a wireless module authorized for use in the computer by the governmental agency that regulates wireless devices in your country or region. If you replace the module and then receive a warning message, remove the module to restore computer functionality, and then contact technical support through Help and Support. NOTE: The black WLAN antenna cable is connected to the WLAN module "Main" terminal. The white WLAN antenna cable is connected to the WLAN module "Aux" terminal. ENWW Component replacement procedures 51 2. Remove the two Phillips PM2. 0×4. 0 screws that secure the WLAN module to the system board. (The edge of the module opposite the slot rises away from the computer. ) 52 Chapter 4 Removal and replacement procedures ENWW 3. Pull the WLAN module away from the slot at an angle and remove it. Reverse this procedure to install a WLAN module. ENWW Component replacement procedures 53 RTC battery Description RTC battery (includes cable and 2-sided tape) Spare part number 592965-001 Before removing the RTC battery, follow these steps: 1. If you are unsure whether the computer is off or in Hibernation, turn the computer on, and then shut it down through the operating system. Remove the memory cover (see Memory module on page 47). Remove the RTC battery: 1. (The RTC battery is attached to the system board by double-sided tape. ) Reverse this procedure to install the RTC battery. 54 Chapter 4 Removal and replacement procedures ENWW Top cover Description Top cover (includes TouchPad and TouchPad cable, caps lock light board and cable, and top cover bumper pads) Spare part number 592964-001 Before removing the top cover, follow these steps: 1. If you are unsure whether the computer is off or in Hibernation, turn the computer on, and then shut it down through the operating system. Remove the memory cover (see Memory module on page 47). Remove the top cover: 1. Remove the 17 Phillips PM2. 5×6. 0 screws (2) that secure the top cover to the computer. ENWW Component replacement procedures 55 3. Remove the two Phillips PM2. 0×4. 0 screws in the battery bay that secure the top cover to the computer. 4. Release the zero insertion force (ZIF) connector to which the TouchPad cable is connected and disconnect the TouchPad cable (2) from the system board. Release the ZIF connector to which the keyboard cable is connected and disconnect the keyboard cable (3) from the system board. 8. Remove the top cover. Reverse this procedure to install the top cover. 56 Chapter 4 Removal and replacement procedures ENWW Keyboard NOTE: The keyboard spare part kit includes a cable and 2 retention clips. If you are unsure whether the computer is off or in Hibernation, turn the computer on, and then shut it down through the operating system. Remove the top cover (see Top cover on page 55). Remove the keyboard: 1. Release the two tabs (1) built into the keyboard shielding. ENWW Component replacement procedures 57 3. Remove the two retention clips (2) by sliding them toward the back of the top cover. 4. [. . . ] Caution must be exercised when removing and handling the backlight to avoid damaging this component and causing exposure to the mercury. CAUTION: The procedures in this chapter can result in damage to display components. The only components intended for recycling purposes are the liquid crystal display (LCD) panel and the backlight. This HP product contains mercury in the backlight in the display assembly that might require special handling at end-of-life. [. . . ]
