The following basic rules apply: set it to "Normal" for regular sized rooms; set it to "Wide" for large rooms; set it to "Narrow" for small rooms. "Amplifier Mode" on "AUTO": Subwoofer switches on automatically when it receives a music signal; when the music stops the subwoofer automatically goes into standby mode after 5 to 15 minutes.
