[. . . ] Do not use this booster seat with two-point vehicle belts (lap-belt only or shoulder-belt only). To prevent injury due to deterioration, hidden damage, lost instructions, outdated technology, etc. , discontinue use of a booster seat that is older than six years or has been in a severe crash. 4 DEATH or SERIOUS INJURY can occur. Based on crash statistics, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration recommends that parents select the rear seat as the safest location for a properly installed booster seat. Please study the section on Vehicle Safety Belts in this booklet to ensure the child's safety. If in doubt about installing this booster seat, consult the vehicle owner's manual. [. . . ] The vehicle owner's manual will have information on the types of seat belts in the vehicle. If the belt type is listed above, select another seating position. Vehicle Seating Positions WARNING! · Britax and the U. S. Department of Transportation warn that children 12 and under must ride in the rear seats, away from front air bags. When using in a vehicle with air bags, refer to the vehicle owner's manual for additional booster seat installation instructions and precautions. Headrest height-adjustment handle Shoulder-belt guide (one on each side) Recline flap Backrest attachment axle 9 Attaching the Backrest To attach the backrest to the base, place the base on a flat surface and align the back rest evenly with the base. 1 Fold the plastic tab on the backrest upward, align the backrest attachment axle with the axle guide on the base and slide the backrest attachment axle into position. A) A 2 Push the plastic tab under the seat cushion so that it rests on the plastic surface of the base. B) B 3 Swivel the backrest up until you hear a "click. " Backrest is not fully engaged until a click is heard. C) Tip: Always use caution and keep fingers away from moving parts to avoid potential injury. C 10 Adjustments Adjusting the Backrest Use the two-position recline flap to adjust the back angle of the booster seat. 1 Reclined Backrest Position: Pull out the recline flap and slide down until in reclined position. A) A 2 Recline the backrest until the recline flap lies flat along the back of the vehicle seat. B) WARNING: Do not recline the backrest farther than the recline flap will allow. This could cause the backrest to become loose or unstable in the event of a crash. B 3 Upright Backrest Position: Pull recline flap out and slide up until in upright position, flush with backrest. C) WARNING: Whether in reclined or upright position, recline flap should always be in full contact with the vehicle seat when booster is installed. C 11 Adjustments Adjusting the Width of the Base The base width can be adjusted for a proper fit, to improve side-impact protection and provide greater comfort. 1 Before placing child in seat, squeeze both adjustment levers while pulling arm rests apart to achieve the widest base position. Squeeze both adjustment levers to adjust the armrests and base width to the desired position. As your child grows, further width adjustments will become necessary. B Adjusting Headrest Height 1 Check fit with child seated in booster seat. With one hand, grasp and pull up on height-adjustment handle located at top rear of headrest. A) Slide headrest up or down to the desired height and release adjustment handle. Repeat process until headrest is positioned properly with the shoulder belt resting comfortably across the child's shoulders. B) Tip: Make note of the adjustment needed for a fit where the belt guides are even with, or just above, the child's shoulder. A B 12 Using the Booster Seat Installation 1 Place booster seat in a vehicle seating position equipped with a lap-shoulder belt. If needed, adjust or remove the vehicle's head rest to allow the backrest to fall flat against the vehicle's seat back. A 2 B 3 Position lap portion of the vehicle belt under armrest and over both color-coded belt guides and child's upper thighs then buckle. B) Ensure the buckle is secure by gently pulling on it. C 4 Position the shoulder portion of the vehicle belt through the shoulder belt guide, opposite the buckle. Their use could cause this booster seat to fail federal safety standards or perform worse in a crash.
