How To Replace The Spark Plug Replace the spark plug annually. Note: In some areas, local law requires using a resistor spark plug to suppress ignition signals. If this engine was originally equipped with a resistor spark plug, use the same type for replacement. A A B Figure 11 12 BRIGGSandSTRATTON. COM Maintenance How To Access The Spark Plug (2-Piece Snow Hood) To access the spark plug, the snow hood must be removed as follows: 1. Before installation of the snow hood, make sure that the primer hose and the stop switch wire are connected. Align the slots in the choke control knob with the tabs on the choke shaft (I) and then push down to install. Do not install the safety key until you are ready to start the engine. Figure 12 C D B G E F I H Figure 13 en 13 Maintenance How To Access The Spark Plug (1-Piece Snow Hood) To access the spark plug, the snow hood must be removed as follows: 1. Do not disconnect the primer hose (E) or the stop switch wire (F) (Figure 15). Before installation of the snow hood, make sure that the primer hose and the stop switch wire are connected. Mount the snow hood to the engine and secure with the mounting screws (Figure 14). Do not install the safety key until you are ready to start the engine. COM Maintenance Inspect Muffler And Spark Arrester Running engines produce heat. · Allow muffler, engine cylinder and fins to cool before touching. · Remove accumulated debris from muffler area and cylinder area. · Install and maintain in working order a spark arrester before using equipment on forest-covered, grass-covered, brush-covered unimproved land. The state of California requires this (Section 4442 of the California Public Resources Code). Remove the muffler deflector (B), if equipped, and inspect for damage or carbon blockage. If replacement parts are required, make sure to use only original equipment replacement parts. B WARNING A A WARNING: Replacement parts must be the same and installed in the same position as the original parts or fire could result. DO NOT use this engine for anything other than snow removal. en 15 Maintenance How To Change The Oil CAUTION: Used oil is a hazardous waste product and must be disposed of properly. Check with your local authorities, service center, or dealer for safe disposal/recycling facilities. Add oil · Place engine level.
