Detailed instructions for use are in the User's Guide.

[. . . ] This confirmation is particularly important in the case of the HSi S6W2 subwoofer, because installation of the cabinet requires the removal and replacement of a rectangle of ceiling board in existing construction. In existing construction, if you do not know what is above the ceiling, confirm there is enough room for the speakers by drilling a small hole, inserting a coat hanger wire or other tool, and feeling around to make sure proper clearance exists. Before cutting speaker holes, drill a small hole and use a coat hanger wire or long screwdriver to check for clearance above the ceiling. Within reason, wherever the speakers look right, they'll sound right. [. . . ] After deciding on the location of the HSi S6W2, use the supplied template to check for the fit of the subwoofer and location of the port wall plate. Note that the hole required for installation of the subwoofer cabinet will be larger than the rectangle on this template. After the subwoofer cabinet is installed, use this template as a rough guide for locating the trim plate. Use the separate small round template (part #137-001545) to mark the precise hole size for the trim plate before cutting. So it is very important to space the subwoofer above the ceiling very carefully. The space between the subwoofer and a typical 3/8inch (10 mm) ceiling board should be 7/8inch (22 mm). Be sure to mount the HSi S6W2 rigidly to the floor joists, as its tremendous output could cause unwanted vibration if the HSi S6W2 is able to move. Be sure the joists to which the HSi S6W2 is mounted are securely braced against each other so that the distance between them does not change and they are not able to move or shift. If you do not know what is above the ceiling, confirm there is enough room for the speakers by drilling a small hole, inserting a coat hanger wire or other tool, and feeling around to make sure proper clearance exists. After starting to cut the hole for the sub, it is possible to confirm the location of joists and shift the hole location if needed. 2) Mark and cut the hole in the ceiling for installing the subwoofer cabinet. If possible, make the subwoofer cabinet hole large enough so you can reach the terminal area after the subwoofer is installed. 3) Care needs to be taken with locating the port wall plate, because the sub placement and port tube only offers some flexibility in placement of the trim plate. Also the wall plate flange is thin, so the trim plate's hole must be precisely cut. 4) Use the large template to mark the trim plate hole location, but do not cut the hole until the subwoofer is mounted. 5) If any nails are protruding from the subfloor above, cut or hammer them out of the way. 6) With the trim plate hole marking as a guide, hold the HSi S6W2 in place and use the supplied brackets to mark for screw holes. (Medium Density Fiberboard), which can crack if pilot holes are not drilled. 9) Attach the brackets to the subwoofer , and mount the brackets to the joists. NOTE: The flexible port can only bend 1-inch (25 mm) in any direction. So it is very important to space the subwoofer above the ceiling very carefully. The space between the subwoofer and a typical 3/8-inch (10 7 mm) ceiling board should be /8-inch (22 mm). [. . . ] If you are applying paint with a brush or roller, thin the paint and apply two very light coats. This helps prevent excessive paint buildup or "runs" on the frame. After the paint has dried, use the finger pulls to remove the paint mask. If you are applying paint with a brush or roller, thin the paint and apply two very light coats. [. . . ]
