Detailed instructions for use are in the User's Guide.

[. . . ] In rush hour of course, it's best to avoid them, and instead give your BMW K 1200 R free rein on the legendary "PCH" (Paci c Coast Highway). People here are used to fronting up and showing what they're made of. But if you're on the world's most powerful production naked bike, that shouldn't be a problem. 14-15 Maximum power output 163 bhp (120 kW) at 10, 250 rpm 100 80 140 Maximum torque 127 Nm at 8, 250 rpm 80 60 40 A 4-cylinder urban symphony. The BMW Motorrad in-line 4-cylinder engine is the reason why the BMW K 1200 R is the most powerful series production naked bike around. It delivers superlative performance, its low centre of gravity contributing to the bike's outstanding handling. [. . . ] This results in a lower centre of gravity and better balance, while also making space for a larger airbox, and as such plays a part in the K 1200 R's outstanding performance. The sensitive side of the world's most powerful production naked bike. With its Paralever rear wheel control system, BMW Motorrad has developed the perfect complement to the Duolever. The Paralever system combines the functions of power transmission and suspension, negating the effect of drive shaft vibrations. The positioning of the Paralever strut over the shaft drive ensures good ground clearance, while the progressive inverse kinematics deliver outstanding suspension response. The low weight of the Paralever reduces the unsprung mass, and its small size has enabled the designers to give the bike a slender profile. The Duolever and Paralever work together to deliver exceptional active safety, class-leading ride comfort and outstanding handling. The sophisticated geometry improves damping and reduces brake dive. The separation of damping and suspension functions markedly improves handling. The laterally mounted engine, with its cylinder bank angled forward by 55 degrees and dry sump lubrication, provides an extremely low centre of gravity. This low-maintenance solution is extremely durable, while delivering consistently excellent performance. 18-19 ESA: sample settings ESA normal setting: the standard setting for everyday riding. ESA sports setting: for more involving feedback during hard riding. Electronic Suspension Adjustment (ESA). * Up until now, different surfaces, varying loads and individual riding styles all made manual suspension adjustment a tricky business. Achieving optimum balance in the preloading of springs and suspension requires a great deal of experience and judgment. The BMW K 1200 R does away with manual suspension tuning, thanks to the innovative Electronic Suspension Adjustment (ESA) system. * The settings selected are displayed on the large Info Flatscreen. When stationary and with the engine running, the rider can adjust suspension preload to the current level of load (rider only, rider with luggage or rider with passenger and luggage) at the touch of a button. ESA makes it possible for riders to adjust the suspension while on the move, to suit their own personal riding style and road conditions. At the touch of a button, riders are able to choose between three settings (Normal, Comfort and Sport) for front and rear suspension. The damper settings rebound at the front, rebound and compression at the rear are then adjusted automatically. With its easy operation and optimised suspension set-up, ESA makes a significant contribution to rider safety and comfort. Sleek and compact, the BMW K 1200 R's windshield offers riders excellent protection from wind and weather. The optional sports windshield offers even higher levels of protection (see picture, left). Developed in a wind tunnel, its shape is designed to direct the airflow around the rider, making for a relaxed riding experience even at high speeds. The Tyre Pressure Control (TPC) system uses sensors to constantly monitor tyre pressure. If the pressure falls below a certain level, the rider is immediately notified via the display and/or a warning light. * Currently under development BMW Motorrad Urban K 1200 R The Ultimate Riding Machine bmw-motorrad. com The models illustrated in this brochure show the specifications for Germany.
