Instead, you enter your destination in the navigation system using the text input (see p. Positioning The current vehicle position is determined by means of GPS satellite signals, the speedometer signal and a gyroscope. The navigation system compares these data with the digital map material on the navigation CD and calculates the vehicle position as well as the route to the destination. For the navigation system to determine the current position, the vehicle must be on a street which is featured on the navigation CD ("digitised street") and the GPS antenna must receive sufficient satellite signals. Destination guidance As soon as you start the destination guidance (see p. 65) and the display shows visual turn-by-turn directions (arrows, distance and time information, see p. 64). The information is completely displayed. MP3 Bob Marley Don't rock my boat Press the ESC button A to close the Info display. 45 Operating the navigation system Dynamic route adaptation While driving, the navigation system can receive traffic information from TMC stations in the background (see p. If there should be a traffic jam on the route, you hear an announcement and the navigation system automatically calculates a new route if it allows you to reach your destination faster If you do not follow the turn-by-turn directions, e. g. because a street is blocked or because the traffic routing has changed, the navigation system automatically calculates a new route (see p. The corridor function If the navigation system calculated a route, it stores all the streets leading to the destination and also streets that lie in a corridor to the left and the right of the route. These data are illustrates by means of the corridor status display (see L on p. while evading a traffic jam, you can remove the navigation CD from the drive and play a CD. If you leave the corridor while driving, you hear a request to reinsert the navigation CD. If you do not insert the navigation CD, you hear a corresponding note and no additional turn-by-turn directions follow. The surroundings function If no destination guidance is active, the navigation system automatically loads the digital map material of a certain area surrounding the vehicle position into its memory. Within this area, you can specify and navigate to destinations without having to insert the navigation CD. Installing the navigation software DANGER!If you perform the following settings while driving, you may be distracted from the traffic and cause an accident. Perform the settings described in this section only while the vehicle is standing! Before you can use the navigation system, you must install the navigation software as described below. [. . . ] EON Enhanced Other Network In case of a traffic announcement (TA), the device switches over from a non-traffic information station to a traffic information station of the same station chain. After the traffic announcement, the system switches back to the previously heard programme. GPS Global Positioning System This system allows for a worldwide positioning by means of 24 satellites orbiting the earth at elevations of 20000 km and transmitting a precise time signal. HighCut HighCut results in an improved reception in case of weak radio reception (FM only). [. . . ]
