The box may be intimidating to look at, but it's more than made up for by the ease of assembly. Place one foot inside the box and lift the bike so it's standing on both wheels. Swing the steering mast around the non-drive side until the handlebars are facing away from the bike. [. . . ] Normal alkaline batteries will work, but they won't last as long. As far as we know, lithium AA batteries are only available from Energizer. Keep this in mind as you search for new batteries. 19 Maintenance and Repair 20 Adjusting the Shock: The shock absorber is one of the easiest to maintain items on the bike. Before you received your BiGHA, the shock was tuned to your approximate weight. You won't need to adjust it unless your weight has changed drastically or you lend the bike to a different sized person. But here's how just in case: Twist the shock clockwise to stiffen the suspension. If you notice yourself bouncing up and down as you pedal, the suspension is set for a lighter weight. The opposite is also true: if you don't feel enough of a bounce as you go over bumps, the shock is too tight. Now you'll just twist counterclockwise until you feel comfortable. You should be able to twist the shock with your bare hand, but if it's too tight, you can use the large end of the wrench included with your tool kit. As a general guideline, one full rotation of the shock is equal to a 15 pound adjustment. So if you weigh 150 lbs and you loan your BiGHA to a 175 lb friend, you should turn the twist the shock clockwise almost 2 full rotations. To reset the suspension for yourself, just twist counterclockwise again. Adjusting your brakes: Your BiGHA uses dual disc brakes that function not all that differently from those on your car. While they do require periodic maintenance, it only takes a few seconds and you won't need any tools. Twisting these circular knobs changes the distance between the brake pad and the rotor. Turn clockwise to move the pad closer and counterclockwise to move the brake pad away. The closer the pad is to the rotor the stronger your brakes will feel. But don't twist until the knob is in constant contact with the rotor. The first adjusts the "tightness" of your brake levers (how hard you have to pull for the brake to be applied) and the second adjusts the actual functionality of the brake. 21 Changing the "Feel" of the brakes: You may notice after a long curvy downhill that you have to pull harder on the brake levers to actually slow the bike. To "tighten" your brakes, twist the red knob on the outside of the wheel clockwise until you find the desired level. Changing the "Strength" of the brakes: Every few hundred miles, you'll need to adjust for wear in your brake pads. This time you'll need to twist the knob on the inside of the wheel until the pad is actually in contact with the brake rotor. [. . . ] A helmet cannot guarantee safety, but it will absorb the majority of any impact. Anything you can do to see more clearly is an enhancement to your safety. They improve your grip and protect hands in case of a fall or other accident. Keep careful watch for others and make it is easy for them to see you. [. . . ]
