Although your hob is equipped with an internal safety system, empty cookware can heat up so quickly that the "automatic OFF" function does not have time to react and a very high temperature may be reached. It is for this reason that you are recommended to use a hotplate which matches the diameter of the pan. Switching the temporary childproof lock on and off To switch it on You can lock the hob on just one occasion, for example if you have young children visiting you.
