[. . . ] SMARTGARTTM does not actually disable any AGP functionality in your computer's hardware. It simply instructs the ATI CATALYSTTM driver not to use a specific AGP function if that function hasn't passed the SMARTGARTTM diagnostics test. Changing the AGP settings could result in system instability. Proceed with caution. 26 ATI SMARTGARTTM Tab SMARTGARTTM Tab SMARTGARTTM Tab Set AGP Speed slider Sets the AGP bus speed. The speed available on the slider are dependent on your motherboard's chipset and design. Because changes will not take effect until after a reboot, this may not match the setting on the Set AGP Speed slider. Fast Write allows the CPU to transfer data directly to the graphics accelerator. Fast Write will be on by default, providing your motherboard's chipset supports it. Note that some motherboards may claim to support Fast Write yet be incompatible with certain graphics cards. Because changes will not take effect until after a reboot, this may not match the Fast Write radio button selected. Current AGP Speed Fast Write radio buttons Current Status ATI 3D Tab 27 SMARTGARTTM Tab Retest All button Retests all graphics bus capabilities. All tests and diagnostics are initiated immediately following a system restart. Any settings that have previously been set to Off will be turned on, providing the test passes. When using the Retest All button, problems can arise if the user enables a secondary graphics card (in a multiple monitor environment) after the operating system has loaded. The problem exists because the secondary graphics card is enabled after the SMARTGARTTM diagnostic tests have been run. To ensure system stability you should restart the computer after the secondary graphics card is enabled so that both graphics accelerators can be tested with SMARTGARTTM . ATI 3D Tab This tab allows you to fine-tune settings for both Direct 3D® and OpenGL® applications. It displays existing settings and allows you to create unique application profiles. 28 ATI 3D Tab ATI 3D Tab 3D Settings for radio buttons Performance/Quality slider Selects either Direct 3D® or OpenGL® as the format to be altered in the workspace. Controls the overall performance/image quality of your graphic application. Moving the slider to the left will maximize application performance, while moving the slider to the right will maximize image quality. When Use Custom Settings is checked, the Performance/Quality slider is disabled and the Custom button is enabled. Shows the current settings for either Direct 3D® or OpenGL®, whichever is selected. Allows you to save a unique profile of the custom settings you have selected. Once you have completed making your custom settings, click OK in the Custom Properties dialog. Saved profiles are selected from the Current Profile drop-down window. To delete a profile, select it from the Current Profile drop-down window and press the Delete button.
