If you already have a file that contains your dimension hierarchy, simply use the Dimension Wizard to create your dimensions. Then use the Cube Wizard to load data into a new cube using the dimensions created by the wizard. Refer to Section 10 for detailed information on using the Cube Wizard. If no dimension hierarchy file is available, use the Cube Wizard to create the dimensions and load the data. To use the Dimension Wizard, you first name the dimension that you want to create. Finally, you indicate the fields that contain element names and define their hierarchy. With these few basic steps, the Dimension Wizard creates the dimension. Using the Dimension Wizard To create a dimension with the Dimension Wizard: 1. Choose TM1 ¡ Import/Export ¡ Dimension. Creating and Updating Dimensions 8-19 The Dimension Wizard 2. Click Proceed. The Create a Dimension dialog box displays. 3. Type the name of the cube to be created and click OK. 4. Click Proceed. TM1 Perspectives prompts you to specify the source of the input file. 8-20 Applix TM1 Perspectives The Dimension Wizard 5. Click Flat File. The Select Input File dialog box displays. 6. Select the desired file and click OK. TM1 Perspectives prompts you to provide details on the dimension hierarchy. 7. Enter the desired hierarchy information in the worksheet. Your spreadsheet should appear as follows. Creating and Updating Dimensions 8-21 The Dimension Wizard In the worksheet shown above, 0 is the base level, Qtr 1 represents the lowest hierarchy level, and Year represents the highest hierarchy level. When the wizard completes the dimension, the following message displays. 9. Elements, both consolidated and simple, can be added or deleted at any time. When you make a change to a dimension, that change is reflected in all cubes that use the dimension. Therefore, they are always up-to-date. · · · · Creating and Updating Dimensions 8-23 Dimensions - A Summary 8-24 Applix TM1 Perspectives 9 - Creating Cubes Cubes are the database files that store information in TM1 Perspectives. You construct a cube by combining two to sixteen dimensions into a data matrix. Data is stored at the intersection of dimension elements within the matrix and is defined by the names of those dimension elements. For example, a cube containing the dimensions Region, Account and Month might contain a location to store data at the intersection of Northeast, Sales, and January.
