Manual abstract: user guide ALCATEL-LUCENT 5670 RAMRELEASE 3

Detailed instructions for use are in the User's Guide.

[. . . ] The 5620 SAM is leveraged to collect the application intelligence from Alcatel-Lucent 7750 Service Routers (SRs) and Alcatel-Lucent 7450 Ethernet Service Switches (ESSs) equipped with Multi Service-Integrated Service Adapters (MS-ISAs). The 5620 SAM also provides network management, including definition and distribution of network-wide AA measurement policies, for the MS-ISAs. Additionally, the 5670 RAM samples and reports on application-level TCP performance, such as application latency, jitter and packet loss, by leveraging its own highly scalable, load-distributed collection and processing system for raw AA cflowd traffic data generated by the MS-ISA. The Alcatel-Lucent 5670 RAM functionality is provided by three components: · The 5670 RAM Data Collection and Processing (DCP) systems, which load-balance the collection, processing and aggregation of raw sampled AA cflowd data and enable scaling with growing point-to-point application-level TCP performance monitoring demands · The 5670 RAM Server, which aggregates AA accounting data from the 5620 SAM and warehouses the large volumes of aggregated historical AA statistics and raw data provided by the 5620 SAM, as well as the aggregated TCP flow statistics from the 5670 RAM DCP systems · The 5670 RAM Reporter, which provides a web portal that allows both pre-defined and customized reports to be easily created and distributed to a wide audience or to external systems. [. . . ] As another example, policy control applications can be integrated to apply policies that limit social-applications over the Table 1. 5670 RAM Reporter report types and descriptions REPORT TYPE DESCRIPTIONS VPN site or subscriber analysis Application analysis Application distribution TCP flow analysis ·VPNsiteorsubscribertrendsandusageinaspecifiedtimespan ·Topapplicationsorresidentialusers ·Applicationtrendsandusageinaspecifiedtimespan ·Topapplications, applicationgroups, protocols ·Applicationdistributioninanapplicationgroup ·5670RAMDCPcflowdsampledpoint-to-pointTCPflowstatistics ¬Viewperapplicationutilizationandperformanceon"routesofinterest" (Source-to-Destination)forinsightintooptimizationandcapacityplanning ·Performancemetricsinclude: ¬Applicationlevelclient, serverandnetworktripdelay ¬Applicationpacketandbytelossratios ¬Applicationdelayvariation(jitter) ·"Stoplight"styleviewintooperationalhealthofapplications ¬Includesapplicationperformance, bandwidthusage, andotherkeyindicators ·Executivelevel5670RAMdashboardAPDEXscoreviews ¬Includesdrill-downreportswiththresholdcrossalerts(TCAs) APDEX score (an ITIL key performance metric) Alcatel-Lucent 5670 RAM | Release 3. 0 | Data Sheet 3 Pre-defined report templates Pre-defined report templates enable immediate access to application usage intelligence for business VPN and residential triple play services. These pre-defined templates allow service providers to report on any defined application assurance protocol, application group or application, including websites defined as applications. Templates for application-assured business VPN services For application assured business VPN services, operators can use pre-defined templates to report on the bandwidth usage and TCP flow performance for any application or protocol used over the VPN. Operators can also use the Alcatel-Lucent 5670 RAM to gain visibility into the distribution of all applications across several groups. Alternatively, they can focus on groups with a greater number of applications in use, such as those for business applications or web browsing. Figure 2 illustrates two examples of 5670 RAM reports for business VPNs: one on hourly application usage percentages to and from a specified VPN site, and the other on the number of total bytes sent and received by application and by hour. As a result, it is very beneficial to see an aggregated, per-protocol view for each applicationgroup, as well as deeper per-application visibility on a group basis. With the 5670 RAM, operators can use pre-defined report templates to find out how much bandwidth is being used by any managed online application. Trying to understand which of the many applications used by residential subscribers are consuming the most bandwidth can be challenging. With pre-defined 5670 RAM reports, operators can quickly and easily identify applications and application groups with high bandwidth usage trends. Figure 3 illustrates two reports for residential services: applications with the highest total daily traffic flows, and hourly subscriber usage of the top three applications. Table 2 summarizes the pre-defined report templates available. 4 Alcatel-Lucent 5670 RAM | Release 3. 0 | Data Sheet Figure 3. For example, operators can: · Build and layout reports based on any raw or aggregated data points, create parameterized report definitions, and create tables and charts based on a wide variety of chart types · Apply functions to incorporate logical, string, mathematical and statistical calculations (such as distribution statistics), or apply conditional, parameter-based context to reports · Customize reports to meet their specific requirements and incorporate their organization's look and fee Web portal The 5670 RAM Reporter includes a versatile reporting and analysis web portal that presents data in a wide range of predefined reports.
